It is not uncommon for hedge fund managers and analysts to take part in challenging competitions. Just recently, Bloomberg reported that hedge fund manager John Overdeck, the co-founder of quantitative hedge fund Two Sigma Investments, competed at the National Museum of Mathematics’ annual ‘Masters Tournament’ in New York – an advanced maths competition and fundraising event. Despite winning the tournament twice in the past, Overdeck came third this year, losing to independent researcher Geva Patz, but beating his colleague Madalina Persu, a 29-year old quant at Two Sigma, who came fourth.
Here at 2iQ Research, we have our own analyst who enjoys competing in challenging competitions and her name is Milena Piryankova. A PhD student in Modeling and Forecasting at the University of National and World Economy (UNWE), Milena is a Senior Analyst at 2iQ who helps us to analyse and interpret financial data and develop advanced insider transaction solutions for investors.
Passionate about data science, Milena regularly takes part in competitions and is always keen to keep learning. Just last year, she competed in the Data Science Society’s Academia Datathon where her team won second place in the world, and first place in Bulgaria.
Milena is also part of aiSolvers, a young data science team that has enjoyed significant success in the data engineering and machine-learning fields in recent years. AiSolvers’ goal is to find optimal solutions to today’s data challenges.
Milena’s credentials are impressive – not only is she working towards a PhD but she also obtained an MBA in 2017, and in the same year attended a scientific conference where she presented her master’s thesis on the topic of ‘Modeling of the Relation Between Insider Trades and Stock Returns Through Machine Learning Techniques.’ Furthermore, she has taught Modeling and Forecasting as an assistant professor at UNWE. With a strong ability to analyse and solve all kinds of problems, Milena is an integral part of the team here at 2iQ.
Milena’s role at 2iQ includes analysing corporate filings, annual reports, and news flow across multiple geographic markets in an effort to generate a more comprehensive and detailed view of insider activity, and collaborating with other team members to continuously improve the quality and accuracy of our data and ensure data integrity. She also speaks to the investor relations departments of the companies we analyse in order to get a better understanding of their executive remuneration policies and employee incentive plans that lead to directors' dealings. By applying her analytical skills to the role, Milena helps us to develop our database and build advanced solutions that enable hedge funds and investment managers to profit from insider transaction data.
Of course, Milena is just one example of the talent we have here at 2iQ. Having made a number of key hires in recent years, we now have an international team of expert data analysts who are all passionate about analysing insider transaction data and developing innovative solutions for investors. Our team includes CFA charter holders as well as experts with MBAs and Master’s degrees. By leveraging the diverse skill sets of such individuals, we believe that we can create the most comprehensive, powerful database of insider transaction data within the industry.
